The internet is proving more and more to be an integral part of finding love in the 21st century, especially among busy professionals. A growing number, however, are lately finding mass e-mails proclaiming the affection of an unknown “admirer” anything but romantic. The e-mails, like other spam messages, are sent out by the thousands, and hope to catch lonely readers with promises of sex, love, and even marriage, but lack such basics as the recipient’s name. If it sounds laughably unsophisticated, it is. Unfortunately, people have been lured into making trips to foreign countries, and have sometimes been held against their will upon arrival. E-mail has brought the world closer to everyone with a computer and an internet connection, but users must exercise discretion in where they look for love.
