Many culinary experts dream of creating and directing a cooking class. As with any business, a solid plan must be created before the business can begin. Key business plan components of a cooking class include the determination of class composition and focus.

The first step in creating a cooking class is to decide who class participants will be, and how many students will make up an ideal class. This will determine how much classroom space is needed. Younger children generally need more space to work in and may create larger messes. Adults are able to work in smaller spaces but may require more sophisticated equipment. Instructors should also determine what age group they would like to instruct.

After deciding on student age range and class size, class focus is crucial. Perhaps the class will serve young adults who are teaching themselves to cook. On the other hand, the class might serve students as a light-hearted way to meet others while improving existing skills. Classes may be ongoing or run in sessions, with breaks between each session. The class focus will set the tone for advertisements, class difficulty, and pace of instruction.

The creation of any class requires thought and care before monetary investment. With proper planning, directing a cooking class can be a rewarding experience.
