Making the Most of Conference Activities
Conferences present excellent educational and networking opportunities. Not only will you learn valuable information that will help you in your business pursuits, you will also meet lots of great people who can assist you in taking your company to the next level.
The first step to making the most of conference activities is to determine what your goals are. Knowing what you want to get out of the conference will assist you in picking activities that support that goal. For example, if you want to learn how to increase sales in your business, you would select seminars that taught the finer points of sales and marketing techniques.
In addition to signing up for relevant lectures, you should attend as many networking functions as you possibly can. This includes group meals provided by the conference as well as any after conference parties you hear about. Conferences are a fantastic way to meet people you may otherwise have limited access to outside of conference activities.
If you come across someone you want to develop a relationship with, introduce yourself. When the opportunity presents itself, give your elevator pitch (a thirty second spiel about what you do) and hand them your business card. Be sure to get their business card so you can follow up with them at a later date.
Lastly, don’t forget to take a tour of the exhibition floor where businesses have paid to display their products and services. You may find companies who can benefit your business as well as people to whom you can provide services to.
Maximizing conference activities means putting forth a concerted effort to be engaged as well as engaging. The effort is well worth it, however, when you walk away with an expanded network and the knowledge to make your business a success.
